GreenWatt Consulting is South Africa's purpose-built solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) simulation platform. Unlike international tools that lack local context, GreenWatt natively models Eskom TOU tariffs (Megaflex, Miniflex, Ruraflex, Municflex, Nightsave) and also allows for Custom Tariff configurations, load shedding stages 1–8 with pre-charge battery scheduling, peak demand shaving, diesel generator backup, and produces financial projections including ROI, IRR, NPV, LCOE, and payback period — all in South African Rand. Import Helioscope or PVSyst solar data, compare PPA vs lease vs outright purchase, and generate professional custom reports. Start your free 14-day trial at greenwattconsulting.co.za.
Choose the approach that fits your needs — from self-service modelling to full consultancy support.
Perfect for Engineering & EPC companies who want to run their own simulations. Our powerful modelling platform gives you complete control over system design, with all the tools you need to deliver professional feasibility studies and investment analysis.
For organizations seeking expert advisory, our Professional Engineering team delivers comprehensive feasibility studies and system design recommendations. We handle the technical complexity so you can focus on decision-making.
Our simulation platform handles the full complexity of solar and BESS projects with South African conditions in mind.
Purpose-built for South African conditions with full support for Eskom tariffs, load shedding, and local regulatory requirements.
Import Helioscope or PVSyst simulation data, or configure PV systems with degradation rates, orientation, and annual generation profiles. Scale systems dynamically.
Advanced battery dispatch with TOU arbitrage, peak shaving, watchdog charging, and SOC management. Configure charge/discharge rates and depth of discharge.
Upload actual hourly data (CSV/Excel) or generate profiles from TOU patterns. Supports weekday/weekend/holiday variations with kW and kVA tracking.
Model battery backup during Eskom load shedding stages 1-8. Pre-charge scheduling ensures SOC targets are met before scheduled outages.
Peak shaving threshold optimization to reduce demand charges. Watchdog mode protects against TOU peak periods with configurable lead times.
Complete support for Eskom TOU tariffs (Megaflex, Miniflex, Ruraflex), municipal rates, demand charges, network access fees, and feed-in tariffs.
Comprehensive 25-year cashflow projections with NPV, IRR, ROI, LCOE, and payback period. Model financing options, PPA/lease structures, and escalation rates.
Export detailed reports with all inputs, energy flows, financial metrics, hourly data, and charts. Perfect for client presentations and due diligence.
Share projects with team members with view or edit permissions. Perfect for engineering teams and client reviews.
Linear Programming based Model Predictive Control — solves 8,760 hourly LP problems to find the globally optimal BESS dispatch for peak shaving, energy arbitrage, and curtailment management.
Multi-variable what-if scenarios — sweep battery size, tariff escalations, PV capacity, and other key parameters to understand how project economics respond to uncertainty.
Eskom Demand Distribution Management Programme — model compensation for reducing grid demand during evening peak hours. Calculates quarterly payments over a 24-month sustainability term based on contracted MW, average kW reduction during DDPM windows, and pro-rata performance.
Compare financing structures — Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), lease, and outright purchase side by side. Model escalation rates, contract terms, and true cost of energy to help clients choose the optimal financing path.
PV exceedance probability analysis (P50, P90, P99), availability factor modelling, and guaranteed yield compensation tables. Use performance guarantee values to run conservative simulations based on bankable yield estimates.
Model the financial impact of upcoming tariff changes — compare current vs. new rate structures side by side. Evaluate how TOU shifts, demand charge adjustments, and escalation changes affect project economics before they take effect.
Assess the viability of full grid disconnection — model standalone solar + BESS systems with diesel backup, evaluate autonomy days, unserved energy risk, and compare the total cost of off-grid supply against continued grid dependence.
Model Eskom's SSEG offset and banking mechanisms — excess solar export offsets import consumption within TOU periods each month, with surplus credits banked from April through March. Automatically disables feed-in tariffs when active.
